Child at Sohm village, The Gambia

The drama groups in Gambian villages have become a powerful carrier of infomration in the struggle against malaria.

The National Malaria Control Programme and the NSGA train themto spread the messages about prevention. To do this, they write their own short pieces and compose songs.

"A drama group is a very powerful tool," states Abu Carr Sisawo, NSGA facilitator. With a small drama...always in the local language... you can summarize the content of the Self Assessment framework. Drama groups keep on illustrating the same main themes, but they enirch them with allusions to what is being lived in the community. Their plays are not recitations : they invent, improvise, and enjoy very much performing”.
